Kevin Cohee, CEO

Imagine a real life Opie from Mayberry. That’s ME!

Raised in a one traffic-light town on the eastern shore of Maryland, I stood out. After a successful paper route at 11 and at the tender age of 15, I started my first business, as “Kevin’s Ceramic Creations.” That success made it possible to buy a car at 16. At my vocational high school, I majored in Floraculture and after graduation, I moved to our Nation’s Capital. While there, I attended Mixology School preparing for the next 9 years in the hospitality industry (all facets) ultimately taking me to San Jose, San Francisco, then to Sacramento, CA. I LOVE Sacramento and have been entrenched in the community through work and volunteering. I earned a certificate in Graphic Design from UC Davis and had a part-time career in publishing, advertising and marketing. At the same time I owned and franchised a housekeeping business for 16 years before selling it to create Do An Event. Though my dear friend Bill says to “keep it simple” …I just can’t. It’s all in the details!

I bring a wide range of talents and experience to event planning, logistics and management for premier private and public events. A special interest is the power of marketing your event. As Do An Event’s director and founder I built my well-honed event coordination skills after years of experience in hospitality and as the owner of a design and marketing firm. I am supported by outstanding independent contractors in the industry. My passion for events, originality, organization, business, leadership and humor makes Do An Event perfect for any event… especially yours!

Kevin strongly advocates volunteerism and as an example, has volunteered for the March of Dimes’ Best of Sacramento Party since 2002 and was honored as the organization’s Featured Volunteer in 2008.


Do An Event’s CEO, Kevin Cohee has judged the CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CHILI COOK-OFF since 2009 at Woodbridge Winery in Acampo, CA. Kevin, a true foodie-want-to-be was a finalist judge sending the top three winners on to compete at the Terlingua International Chili Championship (TICC) in Texas, one of the most legendary chili cook-offs in the country!   Sadly, he missed the 2012 Championship but returned in 2013.

Do An Event offers college seniors an opportunity to experience and learn the Event Planning industry as well as a tutorial on entrepreneurship. Internships are offered Fall & Spring semesters, hours are flexible and average 10+ a week. Office hours are unpaid. On-site event hours are paid at $10 per hour.

First of all, thank you! You have been one of the best instructors I have ever had. This intern-ship was a dream come true and one I could have never imagined to be so great. I know that I would not have learned as much about the industry from anyone or any place else. What you have taught me is invaluable. Even the situations that were not best served as the some of the most valuable learning points. No matter what was going on, everything was always a teaching moment. Although weddings were not my first choice in events when I started, I know now that I definitely don’t want to plan them. Thank you for opening my eyes to that! I look forward to using what I learned from you in the industry and, one day, be as successful as you are. Anyone who has the chance to learn from you is very lucky.
